We are two-thirds through the 37th Annual Tennessee Renaissance Festival (TNRF). The first 6 days have featured a variety of sights, sounds, activities and experiences for thousands of patrons. As we embark upon the final weekend and the last 3 days of this year’s event; there is still an abundance of festival fun to be had. The artisans, merchants, and entertainers of Covington Glen are ready to welcome you; so grab your garb, your walking shoes, and start planning your trip today!

Blog Post #11: Visit Castle Gwynn Grounds

The grounds tour begins with Mike Freeman, castle proprietor and festival founder, giving a brief overview of Castle Gwynn’s history and details about the beginnings of TNRF in a quaint setting under a canopy of trees. Entering the castle’s carport, an in-depth video presentation offers an interior tour of the castle, which features many items made during the renaissance period. Visitors can also enjoy walking up the castle steps in between the large turrets and the rear balcony. Exploring the castle grounds reveals unique sculptures and artwork and allows for a greater appreciation of so much created from one man’s vision. Continue Reading

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival, Our Story
A postcard of a castle on the Rhine River found in Germany by his father near the end of the Second World War is all it took for a very young Mike Freeman to dream of one day having a castle where he would live. While the fantasies of living the fairytale life fade into memories for most children, calling a majestic castle his home was more of a goal than a dream for this young man. Never wavering in his can-do attitude, Mike put his vision on paper for a high school drafting class project. From a thought, to drawing the plans, to breaking ground on the first tower; Mike, his wife and a group of ardent supporters, transformed a quiet rural area in Tennessee to a landmark destination known for a big white castle and a renaissance festival hosting over 70,000 people a year.
